About LibreNotes
LibreNotes is a private, self-hosted note-taking app with end-to-end encryption. Your notes are stored only on your own server — no cloud accounts, no third-party services, no tracking.
Features:
- Markdown notes with live preview
- End-to-end encryption (XChaCha20-Poly1305 + Argon2id): the server never sees your plaintext or keys
- Offline-first: full local cache, works without network, syncs when your server is reachable
- Conflict resolution: if two devices edit the same note, you choose the winner
- Trash bin with restore and permanent delete
- Dark theme with orange accent
- Works on Android, Linux desktop, and web from the same codebase
The sync server is a single compiled binary you run on a home server. It binds to your LAN only. For access away from home, add devices and the server to a Tailscale or WireGuard mesh — no server changes needed.
All source code is AGPLv3. No proprietary dependencies, no Firebase, no Google Play Services.
Note: F-Droid and GitHub APKs are signed by different keys, so updates from the other source won't install over this one. Pick one source and stay with it.
What's new in 1.6.3
- Android: swipe a note card right (as well as left) to archive it. - Desktop: keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+F focuses search, Ctrl+E toggles preview, Ctrl+Shift+A archives and Ctrl+Shift+Del trashes the open note; Ctrl+/ or F1 lists them all. Ctrl+N and these shortcuts now also work on Windows. - Editor toolbar: Archive and Move to Trash now live in a three-dot overflow menu next to Note color and Preview.
How to install LibreNotes
